Your First Visit

Brief Paperwork
Upon entering the office, we have some brief paperwork for you to fill out. The paperwork provides us with general information about you and your condition.

Consultation
Our first goal is to put you at ease! Once we’ve done that, and after the paperwork has been completed, you will have a consultation with the doctor to discuss your health-related problems, concerns, as well as potential treatment options.

Getting Xrays History and Examination
In order to determine what your actual problem is, the doctor will ask you various questions related to your condition. Next, a number of specialized but gentle tests, including orthopedic, neurologic and chiropractic tests, will be performed to determine the nature and extent of your condition. This will help us arrive at an accurate diagnosis.

X-RAY Studies
While never taken routinely, your specific condition may require us to take x-rays to either rule out more serious conditions or assist us in developing the most effective treatment plan for you.

Same Day Treatment
Once finished with the consultation, examination and X-rays (if indicated), patients may be treated during the same visit depending on their condition. This may include spinal adjustments, physical therapies and/or nutritional support.

ExamMedical Referals
Our office maintains excellent working relationships with the medical community of San Diego. If the doctor feels your condition warrants traditional medical treatment rather than or in conjunction with chiropractic care, we will handle your medical referral including the forwarding of appropriate paperwork.

Home Instructions
Prior to leaving, patients will be given instructions on certain activities or procedures to be conducted at home. This may include ice or heat application instructions, certain activities or positions you should avoid, as well as home exercises and/or stretches.

Schedule Your Next Appointment
You will be given a convenient appointment time for your follow-up visit. Generally speaking, patients are next seen within 1-2 days and are provided with a complete review of findings. Treatment options for your condition will also be discussed during this time. We’ll do our best to answer all your questions and help you make an informed decision. As always, if we think we can help, we’ll tell you. If we don’t think we can help, we’ll do our best to help you find someone who can!

When we have a clear understanding of your condition, we will discuss it with you. We believe optimum health care depends on cooperation between doctor and patient. We will provide you with treatment options, and assist you in the formulation of a personalized treatment plan.

Your treatment may include adjustments (manipulation), in which a precise degree of pressure is exerted to correct dysfunction at various joints. The goal is to restore joint mobility, reduce nerve irritation, relax muscles and assist the natural healing abilities of the body. Adjustments are done manually, or with a small instrument and are gentle, specific and precise. We pride ourselves on our gentle touch.

Patient Review Your treatment plan
Your treatment plan may include advice about life-style, home care suggestions, or other recommendations, and may also include physiotherapy such as ultrasound, traction, specific exercises or other treatments to hasten recovery. Chiropractic care is an extremely safe form of health care in particular when compared to drugs (even over the counter) or surgery. The doctor will discuss the risks, benefits and alternatives to any care we recommend.

How long will it take?
That of course depends on your goals, the severity of your condition, and a number of other factors. Generally we place patients on a short trial of therapy, perhaps over 2-3 weeks. If your condition resolves sooner, great! If not, we will monitor your progress, and of course we are happy to communicate with any other health care professionals you may see, for your further benefit.

We use state of the art equipment and receive the latest training for your comfort and protection. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to make your visit more enjoyable.
